Posy

I have been wanting some Posy fabric.  I have been looking eveywhere but I haven't been able to find many places with yardage.  I wanted 1.5 yards so I could use it for a backing.  I just love how whimsical it is.  Then I found it on Etsy at Fresh Modern Fabrics.  Alice was great and bent over backward to get my order completed quickly.

Then as I was checking out, I found this.  It is Bee Bop, Monkey Bizness by Alexander Henry Fabrics.  There are tons of images on it.

I love how vintage this fabric feels.  I plan to fussy-cut the pictures out for a baby quilt.  I just love all the animals.  So this is a to-be-continued project.

Bachelorette

One of my dear friends is getting married!  So of course I wanted her to be able to celebrate in style so I whipped up this bachelorette sash.  Her wedding colors are blue and silver so I went with a blue satin with a white center.  

Satin is super slippery, so I had to extra pin it and go very slow.

I couldn't possibly have a sash without pink, so I chose hot pink iron-on letters. They are very easy to use even on such a touchy fabric.

We had a great time in Nashville and she was the only girl with such a nifty sash!

New Old Project

After much procrastination, I am finally committing to this new old project.  We are very close to my husband's grandparents.  About a year ago, grandma asked me to repair a quilt that her mother had made many years ago.  It is a beautiful dresden plate of which I neglected to take a full picture...

Sixteen blocks sashed in solid blue.  You get the gist. 

When it come into my life, there were a number of issues.  I don't think I really knew what I was getting myself into.  Not because it is so difficult that I can't handle it, but because it needed more love than I initially thought.  I got it all taken apart and repaired the appliqué and then panicked.  They sat like this for a really long time.

All of the squares were different sizes and not one of them was actually a square.  There was up to three-quarters of an inch variation in them.  The first thing I had to do was find the center of each plate and mark it.

I also bought a new large Omnigrid and marked off a 13 inch square.

Once I had my grid taped, I could use my center mark on the dresden plate and the marks on my grid to get the squares cut correctly.

You can see how uneven the sides were when I went to cut them. 

Nothing look prittier than a stack of scraps and a perfictly square stack of blocks!

Ohio Sew-In

Kara over at Me and Elna is hosting the first ever Ohio Sew-In.  Of course Kelly and I were quick to sign up!  Unfortunately it isn't until November which seems so far away!  Can't Wait!

My Local Fabric Shop

So I am a little late to the party, but I finally got down to my favorite local fabric shop.

The Fabric Shack in Waynesville, Ohio is my favorite place to go if I really need to roll around in fabric for a while. 

They have a great supply of fabrics regardless of your quilting style.  They have tons of modern fabrics, more traditional lines, and lots of solids.  They have so much the place is bursting at the seams... my kind of place!

I got a call in the morning from my quilting buddy Kelly saying that she was planning to drive out to the Shack (our term of endearment) and that my presence had been requested by her two and a half year old daughter G.  I am just tickled that G associates a trip to the fabric store with spending time with me!  We had a great time.  Kelly was on a fabric mission so G and I checked out all the kids fabric.  I learned all about Yo Gabba Gabba and dinosaurs.  She is a great fabric store buddy!!! 

I wasn't planning on buying anything, but they had all of their clearance fabric on sale for $1.99 a yard.  I couldn't help myself.  I found a couple good ones.  These two I thought were fun blenders.

I bought the rest of the bolt of this one.  I just loved it.  I think it will make a good quilt back.  Unfortunately there was only 2.5 yards left... I would have bought more.

They also have a great selection of fat quarters.  I grabbed a couple blenders to put in the stash.

The trip was totally successful.  I got 5 yards of fabric for $17.75!!! Best. Day. Ever!  Thanks G for inviting me on the fieldtrip!

Candy Buttons

Getting fabric in the mail is one of my favorite things.  There is just something so exciting about a box full of fabric just waiting for you to cut into it.  Brenda at Pink Castle Fabrics had a sale a couple weeks ago on her blogger bundles.  I just couldn't resist.  I had to have the Candy Buttons bundle.  It includes:

Stash Me!

I have been making a conscious effort to build my stash.  Many times when I am putting together a quilt, it is with a specific idea in mind.  Once I have the idea, I purchase a line of fabric and make my quilt.  If I am feeling really frisky I mix in some solids. 

I'm a rebel, I know. 

I guess I just figure if the designer took the time to design it, I should use them all together... right? 

That is when Brenda from Pink Castle Fabrics come to my rescue. She has this great Fabric Stash Stack Club where she picks a color family each month and sends you a stack of fabric (hence the name).  My thoughtful parents purchased three months for me for Christmas! 

You can order the stash club in multiple cut sizes (fat quarter, half yard, and full yard) and you can get 6 patterns or all 12.  I only get the six, but goodness it is exciting when they come. 

January is purple month.  I believe that purple fabric is by far the most difficult color of fabric to find.  Luckily I now have six lovely pieces.  Thanks Mom and Dad!
